Ilda Alvarez is a stunning Peruvian coffee, perhaps the finest we’ve ever had. Extremely transparent, with flavors of cherry and apricot with a lingering cocoa finish. Ilda Alvarez (along with her husband Eusebio) worked with Campesino Mateo for the first time this year and their story is inspiring. Matthew Block scouted the farm out given what he thought were ideal growing conditions despite less than-state-of-the-art processing (apparently when he first visited the farm the prior year chickens were running over the drying coffee). Matthew introduced best-practices for picking, washing, sorting and drying the coffees (he helped them build raised drying beds) and the results in just one year are shocking. Everyone is really proud of this coffee, including us!
